A Study on Efficacy of Oral Itraconazole in the Treatment of Seborrheic Dermatitis

Seborrheic dermatitis is a common chronic disease. Malassezia yeasts have been implicated in the pathogenesis of this Antifungal agents are known to be effective treatment yeast infections. This study was done evaluate efficacy itraconazole seborrheic dermatitis. Sixty patients with were evaluated an open non-comparative study. Patients treated capsule 100 mg twice day for week; then after 3-week interval given 2 days following months two consecutive months. Four clinical parameters (Itching, burning erythema, scaling, and seborrhea) assessed using 0 3-point (0= absent, 1 = mild, moderate, 3 severe) score. Mycological evaluation determined presence spores scales direct smear. At end initial significant improvement reported four parameters: Itching, seborrhea. Maintenance therapy led further slightly. Burning sensation mildly improved during treatment. The quantity present smear decreased throughout period. Blood test abnormalities not found So beneficial dermatitis.
